AWF-E WISE WOMEN will gather at 10 a.m. April 15 for a non-taxing conversation about being 70+: Our topic: If not now, when? Or why don’t we feel that old?

Please bring your thoughts, wisdom, readings, poem etc. to our circle. I see us as pioneers. We are a different tribe of women at this stage of life, far different than those who preceded us. If you agree or disagree, please join us! This poem sets the stage for our discussion.

If Only
By Judith Viorst

If only shopping at Saks counted as exercise.
If only aggravation made me thin.
If only there was a pill I could take for grace
under pressure and upper-arm definition.
If only I lost as adorably as I win.

If only having insomnia gave me courage.
If only eating chocolate made me smart.
If only there was a cloth that washed off lipstick,
mascara, eyeliner, blush, and wrinkles.
If only my breasts and my waist were farther apart.

If only going to movies lowered cholesterol.
If only constipation made me rich.
If only there was a shot that would immunize me
against impatience and feeling guilty.
If only I laughed as easily as I bitch.

If only French fried potatoes helped me remember.
If only they sometimes also helped me forget.
If only one morning I’d leap out of bed feeling ready
and willing and eager to welcome old age.
But not yet.
Not yet.
But not quite yet

When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Limoncello

Pack by popular demand, this month’s Happy Hour is a chance to learn how to make Limoncello, Arancello (orange) or Pompelmocello (grapefruit). Bring a large jar or pitcher, 1 liter of Everclear Grain Alcohol or 151 proof vodka and a vegetable peeler. Or-if you prefer, some wine and an appetizer and just watch the fun. Your hostess (Pam Turbeville) will provide the lemons and recipe or you can bring your own citrus to really make it your own.

This Happy Hour event is open to all AWF members.  Address will be emailed to all registered attendees next week.  However, crossroads are Scottsdale & Mountain View Road.

2019 AWF Membership Dues

  • January 23, 2019 - April 30, 2019
    8:00 am - 8:00 pm

Hello Ladies,

It is that time of the year again for membership renewals!

Over the last couple of years, as our membership dues have remained constant, AWF has begun to exceed our budget, resulting in the need to draw from our reserves to maintain annual operations.  The Board reviewed in detail the expenses over the past few years and have approved several changes to reach a balanced budget.

One area that we reviewed was the annual membership dues and the portion of those dues that went to the International Women’s Forum from our chapter. Each year we pay $140 to IWF per member.   Membership dues have not increased since 2007 and yet we have seen the hotels, venues and caterers dramatically increase their costs over the last decade.

For 2019, membership dues have increased by approximately 12% for all members.  The annual dues will change from $400 to $450.   This includes the fee we send to IWF.

We also have an Emeritus membership for those who are 70+, which offers reduced annual dues.  In the past the dues for this group was $200 per year and included the IWF membership fee.   For 2019, we will be increasing the dues for the Emeritus Membership to $225 and this category will not include the affiliation with IWF.  If you are interested in attending the International Events and being affiliated with IWF, you will need to pay the non-emeritus dues.

Thank you for your support of these changes.   We have a great year planned with a variety of interesting programs and we hope to see many of you in attendance.

We will be utilizing our website to facilitate the payment of the dues.

Your payment is due no later than February 28th.
